DIVINE MERCY PRAYER MINISTRY

Parish Goal

Finding God in Myself, Others and All Situations, for God’s Greater Glory”

Living the Parish Goal thru Ignatian Spirituality (the 4 dimensions)

1st Dimension: Personal

"Developing a Personal Relationship with the Lord through a meaningful Prayer Life"

DM members attend daily mass and also try to spend personal time in prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament. There is an awareness among members to integrate spiritual and corporal works of mercy in their daily living.

2nd Dimension: A Vocation – God’s Call to Holiness

"Growing in God’s gift of the lay, priesthood and religious vocation"

DM members try to grow closer to Christ, listening to Him thru daily Mass, thru daily prayers, ... and thus being open
to face the challenges in daily living.

3rd Dimension: Communitarian

"Building and bonding as a community that is Christ-centered and Christ-like.
Through participating in our Parish activities actively especially in the celebration of the Eucharist and by building greater harmony with one another and with our Christian friends and those of other beliefs."

The Core team members are committed and dedicated to the ministry and its mission. Members live the 3rd Dimension thru the Ministry Activities for the parish and thru working closely with the St Cecilians (a music therapy ministry), involving youth from other Christian denomination.

4th Dimension: Social Mission

"Committing ourselves to the Justice and care of the poor and needy of our society and the world around us."

DM members live this 4th dimension thru the various activities and projects for the elderly, the poor and needy living in homes and hospices.

Fund Raising Projects

Members work closely with the St.Cecilians- a music therapy ministry- visiting, evangelising and ministering to the sick, the aged, lonely, the poor, the rejected and the dying.

Every Tuesday and Friday members visit St. Joseph Home & Hospice, St. Teresa and Villa Francis to conduct music therapy for the residents, pray with them and engage in conversation with them.

Core team members make monthly visits to Miriam Home in Kluang , Malaysia. Members conduct music therapy programmes in the Home as well as sponsor lunch for the residents, care-givers and also for the nuns.

Members raised funds for the Miriam Home in Kluang through sale of cookies, candles, aromatherapy and teas.etc. The amount collected purchased for the Home a piano, a new car and a new van.

Some major events organise in these homes are:

1. Annual Special Mass with the Sacrament of Anointing for the sick and the elderly in St. Joseph Home

2. Facilitating and training the residents to provide the music and singing for the Mass. This Mass is usually presided by the Jesuit novice master and the date of the mass is chosen to coincide with the novices experiment in the Home.

3. Stations of The Cross - with Audio Visual Aids (Powerpoint projection) & prayers that are tailored to the needs and orientation of the elderly and the sick.

4. Washing of the Feet - Members wash the feet of the residents during the Holy Week, re-enacting Christ,s message of Love and Humble Service.

5. Easter Bunny Hat Parade - Members celebrate Easter with the residents, with dance, song acting and games.

6. Annual Rosary Procession at the various Homes - This is well attended by residents from various faiths, care-givers, family members and volunteers. This has proven to be an evangelising platform as often residents ask for baptism soon after participating in the rosary procession.

7. Annual Talentime Contest
- where care-givers team up with the residents and present an item. Members facilitate as comperes, consultants, advisers, judges. Members too are main donors to the event.

8. Organising X”mas parties - at the various Homes, complete with Santa Claus and his helpers, carols and presents.

9. Organized and staged a Christmas Pageant on the 24th December,2008 at the church of St. Francis of Assissi. The “actors” were residents and staff from St. Joseph Home.

Mobilized the youth from various Christian denominations to help provide the music, the backdrop and sound system. Close to 1,000 people attended the event.

It was a huge success and many people were touched. More importantly, the residents who were all wheel-chaired bound and were made up of amputees, cancer patients, diabetics and other chronic illness sufferers felt validated and prized as many people came up to tell them that they were very moved by their courage and faith as they felt that the residents were sent as God’s Agents of Hope for everyone that Christmas Eve night!!
