parish priest writes

22nd Jan 2012

After our 29th December Christmas gathering of ministry heads and some non-ministry members, where I presented a general outline of our “Parish Strategy” to renew the faith of the our non-ministry parishioners, I am now following-up with a more detailed presentation to different groups of parishioners.

As a family, we need to engage more people to help each other grow in God’s love and ways.  This “strategy” while in its initial stage stresses the importance of greater lay participation.  Indeed, this “strategy” hopes to build a greater network of persons especially non-ministry parishioners, who take on greater responsibilities and ownership as lay persons to help build our parish community into a “parish family.”

When this happens, in God’s ways and time, more parishioners, ideally every parishioner would have a greater sense of belonging, bonding and mutual love for one another.  This is one of Jesus’ deepest desires as we can glimpse from His prayer, “Father, may they be one in us, as  You are in me and I am in You, . . . may they be so completely one that the world will realise that it was You who sent me, and that I have loved them as much as You loved me.”  (Jn 17:21-23).

Let Jesus’ dream become a reality.  Let us become the “parish family” that Jesus and His Father wills of us. We shall begin in hope, with the Holy Spirit to guide, lead and empower us in this journey.  Open your hearts to this opportunity and do contact me through our Asst. Parish Administrator, Angela tel: 64660625 ext.14 when God’s Spirit moves you to contribute towards this mission of evangelising to one another and to others.

Yours in Christ,

Fr Philip Heng, S.J.
